# Setup & First Steps

***

### 🚀 1. How to install

It is very easy. Just follow these steps:

* **What you need:**
  * Java 17+
  * Server version 1.20.1 to 26.1.x
  * **Vault** (optional, for money costs)
* **Steps:**
  1. Put the `.jar` file into your `/plugins/` folder.
  2. Restart your server.
  3. Done! The plugin is ready.

***

### 🛠️ 2. The Main Command

You can do everything inside the game. You don't need to open any config files. The only command you need is: `/gevo editor`

Use this to:

* Create new gear or clone old ones.
* Change global settings (like sounds or language).
* Edit XP rewards for every block and mob.

***

### ✨ 3. Evolution Path (The F Key)

Players can see their progress anytime. They just need to hold their gear and press the **F key**.

**Inside the menu, they can see:**

* Their current level and XP.
* What they will get next (enchantments, commands, etc.).
* Their total "Lifetime XP".
* The Prestige button (if they are max level).

***

### 💾 4. Better Data Storage

Premium uses **H2** or **SQLite** databases. This is way better than YAML files because:

* It is much faster for big servers.
* Your items are safe. We use unique IDs so nothing gets lost.
* It makes a backup every time you start the server.

***

> \[!TIP] If you want to show someone how to craft an item, use `/gevo recipe <id>`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://troxlabs.gitbook.io/gearevolution/setup-and-first-steps.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
